The third generation Toyota Prius looks much like its iconic predecessor but slightly wider and comes with a larger 1.8-liter engine. Highway fuel economy has improved slightly, but city mileage has fallen a bit. It can propel itself solely on electric power at low speeds. The new Prius feels more substantial and boasts several improvements. Side curtain air bags and ESC are standard. - CAR REVIEW

Toyota will Launch 10 Hybrid Car Models

Toyota plans to launch ten new hybrid models globally until 2015, according to business plan released by this Japanese automotive manufacturer.

According to the New York Times, if Toyota's previous statements regarding the development of hybrid cars is still valid, six of the 10 hybrid models will enter the market in 2012.

"Not all hybrids will be sold in the United States," wrote New York Times.

The public has already known about the hybrid Lexus 200h CT and Toyota Prius V released in 2011 that is more roomy.

The new Prius for Europe and Japan market has been introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. The new version is similar to Prius V but the it is capable of accommodating seven passengers and put lithium-ion batteries instead of nickel metal hydride batteries. Toyota likely will give a separate name for the model.

Toyota Prius is more compact, like the concept of Prius C, is possibly included in this group. Prius' plug-ins " which have traveled 13 miles , will be launched to the market in early 2012.

Toyota also said that they would continue the project for pure electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel-cell.

Toyota Prius reaches a milestone (EU)

Toyota is rejoicing in selling its 200,000th Prius hybrid in Europe. The sedan hit the European market back in 2000, with sales reaching 100,000 in 2008. However, with the arrival of the Prius III, and a shift in buying trends towards cars which are apparently as greener, Toyota has sold a further 100,000 units in the last two years. In the U.S, the Prius hybrid has sold in excess of 680,000 units since its launch in 1997.

Over the Prius’ 10 years on sale, many enhancements to its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain saw fuel consumption drop by more than 23% and CO2 emissions plummet by around 26%. This has been achieved despite power increasing by 30%.

The UK is the Prius’ largest European market with more than 1 in 5 sales in the UK. This year’s sales to date are at 6,579 units, almost equalling the 2009 figure in just six months.

Confirming the Prius’ presence as a mainstream model the world over, Toyota expects global sales to reach 2m by the Autumn of this year.
