The death toll from the attacks increased bombardment of North Korea. South Korean soldiers who were killed in 2 people, while there were 20 people were injured including three civilians. As reported by Reuters on Tuesday (23/11/2010), soldiers who were killed this includes the previous four wounded soldiers.  South Korean Defense Ministry said there was a wounded 17 soldiers and 3 civilians were also wounded. South Korean Defense Minister Lee Hong-ki, immediately said that North Korean artillery attack was a deliberate action. They accuse North Korea had violated the cease-fire since the end of the Korean War 1953. "This is a deliberate and planned attack," said South Korean Defense Minister Lee Hong-ki, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday (23/11/2010). North and South Korea did not actually ever really stop the war. The Korean War ended in 1953 only with a ceasefire.  Now, South Korea feels it has violated the ceasefire. "This is clearly a violation of a ceasefire," added Lee. Fortunately South Korean allies have the support of the United States. White House immediately said it would defend South Korea. "The U.S. is firmly committed to defending our ally, South Korea, and to maintain regional peace and stability," the White House said in a statement. Previously, North Korea fired about 200 artillery shells into Yeonpyeong Island in the South.  This is the worst attack since the two neighbors is a truce that ended the Korean War in 1953.  This attack happened as the arrival of U.S. envoy to the region following the North's stance that continued enrichment of uranium.  U.S. worried about N Korea will make an atomic bomb. Yeonpyeong Island is just 3 km from the border with North Korea.  About 70 homes burned in Yeonpyeong Island North Korea due to being bombarded.  While the residents were evacuated into a bunker or out of the island by boat fishermen.
