Has inspired a series of military trucks, as the Land Rover brand is the oldest in the second drive on 4 wheels. The original Jeep vehicle that has become the prototype Bantam BRC became the primary unit of lightweight 4-wheel of the United States Army and the Allies during the Second World War and its aftermath. Many variants of Jeep used similar military and civilian roles have since been established in other countries.
Jeep brand was first owned by Willys-Overland, where the joint venture with Ford Motor Company production of GPW (G - governmental, P - wheel base type, W - Willys-Overland) inspection vehicle for U.S. Army in 1941. The company was purchased by Kaiser in 1953, which changed its name to Kaiser-Jeep a year later. In 1970, bought American Motors (AMC) and Kaiser-Jeep in 1979, began receiving investment from French automobile manufacturer Renault. The economic difficulties in 1987, Renault was sold to Chrysler Corporation, which merged with Diamler-Benz in 1988. The DiamlerChrysler Company LLC currently owns the Jeep brand and characteristic of the car design of the seven-slot grille.
